Inspiration and Appreciation
Chris Visserman
Principal, John D. “Bud” Hawk Elementary at Jackson Park, Central Kitsap SD
The best part of being involved with AWSP these past several years has been the regular opportunities to engage with other principals from across our state and country. The collaboration, teamwork, and connections made have had a tremendous impact on my leadership, school improvement efforts, and ability to keep my “bucket filled,” so I always have something left to give to my students, staff, and community. I have been so inspired by the positive energy and practical, thoughtful ideas that principals bring forward each time we are asked to think about and provide input on policy or offer solutions to the multitude of challenges we face as leaders.
AWSP strives to be sure every member who wants to participate can find a way to contribute. We are stronger when we represent the unique needs of each particular region, community, and school across our great state.
Now more than ever, AWSP is actively seeking principals and assistant principals to get involved. Whether serving on the AWSP board, a grade-level leadership committee (GLLC), participating in advocacy work, mentoring, attending our Annual Summer Conference, or even responding to a survey, your participation makes our association great!
AWSP strives to be sure every member who wants to participate can find a way to contribute. We are stronger when we represent the unique needs of each particular region, community, and school across our great state. Our association’s ability to influence policy and legislation to support students and schools continues to grow and has never been stronger. AWSP thrives because leaders and policymakers recognize that including principal voice results in stronger schools and better student outcomes. It has been an honor to serve as your AWSP President this school year! I am humbled and very appreciative to have had this tremendous opportunity. Thank you to Dr. Scott Seaman, the amazing AWSP staff, and my colleagues who have given so much of their energy, wisdom, and goodwill to make this a rewarding experience.
Chris Visserman is the 2021-22 AWSP Board President. He has been principal at Hawk Elementary at Jackson Park, Central Kitsap School District since 2010.
